Abstract: The issue of mineral deposit evaluation is very topical. After the changes to the economic systems in many European countries the criteria of assessment and evaluation of mineral deposits have changed significantly, and authors of these «recomputations and calculations» use various, often unsuitable methods, mainly because they have never had an opportunity of becoming acquainted with modern and comprehensive methods of mineral deposit evaluation. In other words, we have attempted to generalize the terms, concepts and definitions relating to the assessment of mineral resources, and also to pro-pose a classification of reserves according to their technological and eco-nomic importance. The European System of International Classification of Reserves is presented. Principles of Evaluation of Reconnaissance Mineral Resources are described. This article might be useful also for experts from practice.
