Abstract: One of the important issues not only for promoting, but also for writing scientific articles is the correct design of article lists of references and cita-tions in the text. Russian GOST (State Standard) R 7.0.5-2008 does not take into account the peculiarities of the design of these elements of the publi-cation in the foreign press due to significant differences in the styles used, each of which has found its application in the relevant areas of scientific knowledge. Especially often, such questions arise when submitting articles to high-ranking journals indexed in Scopus, Web of Science and other spe-cialized databases. It is known that the initial study of the submitted article includes a check of the references list (approximate domestic analogue - check on formal grounds), if it is incorrect, the article is automatically re-jected or returned to the authors for rework. Repeated submission of the corrected version automatically returns the article to the “beginning of the queue”, that is, the article is considered not as having received correction on the comments of the reviewers, but again being submitted from scratch. This often shifts the possible publication date by months in advance, which may create problems for the author. In this paper, a brief description and summary of the most common styles of reference lists and in-text citation used in the journals of the world's larg-est publishers (Springer, Elsevier, Wiley, etc.) is made in order to facilitate compliance with the formal requirements for articles submitted to high-ranking journals.
