Abstract: At the Kuzbass mines, the methane-air mixture from the backfill space is drained through assembly wells. The time for drilling one well reaches 5-7 days, including the casing process, which is quite significant when drilling a large number (several dozens) of wells. Such a duration is primarily due to the equipment used. As a rule, for these purposes the drilling rigs of the BGA2 type (BGA2M or BGA2B) are used. The required diameter of a borehole is 900 mm or more, and BGA2 is not capable of drilling to this diameter in one or two runs, moreover it is not capable of installing casing pipe right in the process of drilling. In this article the authors reviewed the rigs for drilling ascending workings in order to determine the possibility of their application as an alternative to BGA2. It was found that in spite of the advantages, these rigs are not able to fully replace the existing equipment.
