Abstract: One of the necessary and at the same time very labor-intensive stages in the design of almost any component of a modern car is the stage of performing strength calculations. The most important task, the solution of which allows us to ensure the adequacy of the results obtained when performing this stage, is the correct choice of load modes used in the calculations. The purpose of this work is to formulate an approach that allows reducing the number of design loading cases used in the early stages of design, when there is no detailed and approved image of the structure being developed, in order to reduce the overall design time without losing the quality of the final result. This article presents the principle of research, which consists in analyzing the results of calculations of the stress-strain state of the structure of various elements of the car for the entire set of operating load modes, selecting the most severe ones in accordance with the calculation results, and comparing the integral results for the entire set of modes with integral results of the previously selected most severe modes. On the basis of this work, it is possible to develop methodological recommendations for the rational selection of design load modes used in analyzing the strength of a structure at the initial design stage in order to save overall calculation time.
