Abstract: The most important task when using asynchronous motors, including in the mining industry, is the choise of the most optimal way to increase their energy efficiency in order to reduce energy and economic cost. This paper presents the results of an analytical researches of the main directions for increasing the energy efficiency of asynchronous motors: the creation of new motors, modernization during repairs, work optimization when in service. To solve the problem of increasing energy efficiency during operation, a simulation of engine starting was carried out using a reactive power compensation device. Researches were carried out on a BAO2-450LA4 electric motor with a power of 315 kW with a load of 1000 Nm on the shaft. The results of reducing the current consumption during starting the electric motor were obtained, wich makes it possible to reduce the load on the electrical network and decrease the voltage drop, thereby increasing the stability and reliability of electrical equipment, as well as increasing its service life. Based on the results obtained, it was concluded that the most favorable situation is to use two reactive power compensation devices, one of which, designed for the nominal mode, is connected constantly, and the second one, designed for the starting mode, is connected during start-up only. The data obtained in the work can be used for the most effective search of the way the energy efficiency of asynchronous motors during operation.
