Abstract: The problem of the shortage of engineering, technical and labor personnel for the mining industry of the Russian Federation has recently been aggravated by the consequences of the pandemic, the demographic crisis and sanctions imposed by unfriendly countries. In this regard, the mining industry is in conditions of constant “turbulence”, subject to the influence of internal and external shocks of a multifaceted and versatile nature, which is aggravated by a decrease in the production of specialists in the field of applied geology, mining and geodesy. In order to solve this problem, in many raw material-oriented regions, a comprehensive practice-oriented system for training qualified personnel has been created, uniting state and municipal authorities and local governments, institutions of higher and secondary specialized education, scientific organizations, and industrial partners. The challenges and threats facing the modern labor market for mining specialties should contribute to the formation of versatile, systematized work in the field of training and attracting young specialists to the field of mining. The result of the study is the identification of a wide range of areas of work regarding the formation of human resources for the mining industry, starting from the stage of schoolchildren choosing a future profession, training students in mining specialties, and ending with the formation of value guidelines among the younger generation for employment in the mining industry and further residence in the regions where these industries are concentrated. Systematic work in these areas can help increase the prestige of mining professions, attract applicants for training in technical specialties, and, as a result, ensure an influx of personnel in the mining industry.
