Abstract: The significance of this research stems from the critical gap between the accuracy of computer modeling and the resource-intensive nature of full-scale testing. Traditional approaches do not account for the stochastic nature of the geomedia, which reduces the validity of predictions regarding equipment behavior. The research focuses on addressing the problem of scale effects during the transition from laboratory models to full-scale prototypes. The key variables are the scaling factor, the rheological properties of the artificial geomedia, and the dynamic characteristics of the loading devices. The methodology involves conducting a series of controlled experiments using physical models fabricated using additive manufacturing technologies, followed by verification of the data against the results of numerical simulations. Expected results include the development of methodological recommendations for creating a test environment, which will improve the reliability of predicting the operational characteristics of mining equipment, reduce the time and cost of developing new classes of tunneling machines, and provide a reliable basis for diagnosing the technical condition of equipment during post-repair testing. The purpose of this review is to systematize and analyze existing designs and methods for bench testing of mining tunneling equipment, identify their advantages and disadvantages, and determine promising directions for the development of bench testing facilities based on Russian and foreign sources.
